Upcycle your bed sheets for this fun DIY project

As the world and technology evolves, it is becoming easier each day to consume unnecessary items with low quality value at the click of a button. For this reason, our homes become full of things that we don't want or need.

Throughout our lives we swap and change copious amounts of bedding, whether it be for new styles or improved quality. However, there is no need to leave the left-over sheets stuffed to the back of the cupboard as they can be transformed into a wonderful new home decor piece.

The fun of DIY home decor

Upcycling old items is a great way to unleash inner creativity as well as looking after the planet by reducing waste levels. An at home DIY project can also bring the family together whilst designing one of a kind bedroom decorations.

There are no rules to DIY projects, all you need to do is gather up the old fabrics, a needle and thread and a little bit of imagination!

How to get joy from old bedding

At Lea Mattress we believe that your bedroom interior should feel personal to you, so we have collected our favourite DIY ideas that you can easily create and customise to reflect your own style.

Draught Excluder

All you need to do is cut two pieces of fabric which are longer than the width of your door. Place the two pieces inside out and sew together. Turn the draught excluder the right way around and stuff with foam or filler and then neatly sew the opening up for a clean finish.

Decorative Pillows

Making pillows is a simple task which requires just two square pieces of fabric, needle and thread and a fastening. You can mix and match colours and styles, or customise with old buttons and ribbons to create a one of a kind decoration. These can also be scattered around the house!

Pet Bedding

A fun yet practical way to use up old fabric is by designing a comfortable place for your pet to rest their head. Cats and dogs are unlikely trend followers, they desire a cosy pillow and the comforting scent of their owner, making your old covers ideal! To make a pet bed, follow the same instructions to make pillows but increase the size measurements.

Tote Bag

Sew your own tote bag using two pieces of fabric and long straps. Create your own pattern with appliqué details or by using fabric pens. These bags can double up as a fashion item as well as a stylish storage option.
