How to sleep better in the summer heat with Lea Mattress

Summer nights can be bitter sweet. We all long for those late evenings spent with family and friends under golden skies, but when it comes to getting to sleep in the heat, winter nights are quickly missed! Here is our summer guide to comfort and support:

Increased body temperatures and sleep quality

Sleep experts say that our average body temperature falls during the second stage of sleep. This occurs when the mind starts to disconnect from outer surroundings until reaching the deepest phase of the sleeping cycle.

However, if the room temperature is higher than usual, our mind and body can start to feel a huge discomfort leading to restlessness. So, as the heat rises it is essential that we make small changes to both our night time routine and bedroom atmosphere!

How to cool down at night

The ideal temperature for sleeping is around 15-19 degrees celsius. In order to maintain a comfortable body heat, there are a few ways to manage this.

Keep a constant airflow

Air conditioning and a ceiling fan allow you to stay cool throughout the night, however if you don’t have access to these, open windows are your best friends during the summer season.

Another way you can prepare for bedtime is by keeping the warm winds out during the day with black out blinds and ensuring that all windows remain closed until 1 hour before you sleep.

Set a late night showering schedule

Showering before bed when you feel too hot is not only a sign of a healthy hygiene routine, by rinsing off any previous perspiration, but also cools your body temperature down to a bearable level. Providing you don’t have cold showers, it is also a proven relaxation technique!

Breathable bed sheets and nightwear

Choose your bed sheets, mattress protectors and pyjamas carefully. Switch out your winter duvet and fleecy nightwear for light-weight sheets and fabrics such as cotton, linen and bamboo which have a low thread count.

A quality mattress composition

Your mattress is an investment piece as it will be in your life for around 8 years. Be sure to invest in a quality mattress which both provides comfort and support during every season. If you are wondering which mattress to buy, we recommend our Premium and Ergonomic memory foam mattresses. Both mattresses have been designed using expert knowledge to ensure a good night's sleep even during the hot summer nights.

The sleepology top cover is composed of a breathable and hypoallergenic surface which is a practical choice for those who suffer with hay-fever. Whilst the layer of KGEL is a gel-infused viscoelastic foam, especially constructed to reduce heat build up during sleep.
