Frequently Asked Questions

Would you like to know more about our mattresses-in-a-box, or what to do after you have purchased one? You came to the right place.

We've invested in a various machines that rolls and vacuum packs the mattress, compressing it into the smallest of spaces. We do this for three reasons:

Delivering your mattress compressed into a box costs a fraction of what it would cost to deliver a full size mattress. We then pass these savings on to you, the customer.

Reducing the amount of packaging involved in shipping the mattress means we reduce our impact on the environment. And because it’s compressed, Lea Mattress deliveries require fewer transport journeys – saving on fuel emissions.

Moving a mattress around your house is hard work. By compressing it into a box, we make the process of getting the mattress to your bedroom that little bit easier.

How big is the box?
The box measures 98cm x 38cm x 38cm. The Original double is approx. 35kg, the Premium double is approx. 40kg.
How soon can I use my new mattress?
You can sleep on it almost straight away. It takes about 4-5 hours for it to settle to its full height.
Is the Lea Mattress suitable for any bed frame?Toggle Title
Whilst Lea mattresses can be used with any kind of bed base, a wooden slatted or platform bed offers the most support. Box springs are designed to support innerspring mattresses and can change the way a foam mattress feels - often creating a ‘softer’ feel. If a slatted base is being used, we recommend that the gaps do not exceed 7 cm. It is also important that slats are secured, evenly spaced and rigid. If using a Lea mattress with an adjustable bed, we recommend leaving your mattress flat when not in use!
Can my Lea Mattress be placed on the ground and used without a bed frame?
Using any Lea mattress on the floor will not impact its feel, we do suggest that you prop it up on its side regularly to allow the mattress to breathe. A bed frame allows better ventilation properties than the floor does, be it carpeted or not.
Does the foam used in my Lea Mattress have a smell?
The Lea mattress does have an initial smell you may notice on the day of delivery as this is due to the manufacturing process and the subsequent compression for packaging, so this is totally normal and harmless. The smell will start to fade after the mattress has been unpacked and air has been able to circulate through it. The remaining odour will have fully disappeared after a couple of weeks.
Once the mattress is unpacked, can I put it back the box?
Unfortunately this is not possible, as we have to use special machines to roll up the mattress in the box.
Do I need to turn my mattress over on a regular basis?
Your Lea Mattress will not need to be turned over, ever. In fact, Lea mattresses only work properly one side up. We however do recommend that you rotate your mattress lengthways every 30 days for the first year and then twice a year thereafter. This is so that it maintains its proper shape and will help to extend its lifespan. Also avoid dragging your mattress as you rotate and place it back gently into position, so as to prevent damage.
Can I clean my Lea Mattress?
As the mattress has a removable top panel, this means that it can be washed at 40⁰c. We do recommend spot cleaning any other areas of the cover, if required. Memory foam itself cannot be washed, sponged or dry cleaned. There is a high risk that soaking with water or other cleaning fluids will cause irreversible damage and will invalidate your warranty. Vacuum regularly (using the upholstery attachment) paying particular attention to the piping where dust can settle.
